BEVERLY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 1999--
Leading interactive games publisher Hasbro Interactive announced
today it will introduce games that will run on Microsoft's Windows®
CE operating system. The company will launch four games this year,
starting with Windows CE versions of Hasbro Interactive's best-selling
flagship titles Monopoly® and Scrabble® releasing in March. Hasbro
Interactive is the first software publisher outside of Microsoft to
offer branded interactive games for the Windows CE platform at retail.
The games will sell for approximately $30 in stores.
``The demand for hand-held computer devices with Windows CE is
growing dramatically. People want something small that they can use to
keep organized while away from the office or home.'' said Hasbro
Interactive President, Tom Dusenberry. ``The games we are developing
for the Windows CE platform take up little space and provide lots of
fun wherever you are. There's no better way to pass time or take a
break when you are on the go all the time,'' Dusenberry added.
With this latest move onto a new platform, Hasbro Interactive,
leader in the interactive family entertainment category, capitalizes
on its acclaimed expertise in bringing classic games to life on the
computer. The company is planning to ship a quartet of extremely
strong titles to retail in March of 1999, including Windows CE based
versions of all-American favorites Monopoly, Scrabble, Trivial
Pursuit® and Slingo®.
Recognizing research indicating that Windows CE customers are
heavy Internet users, Hasbro Interactive will offer for the first time
ever downloadable versions of its CE games at its own online store and
at its retail partners' sites. Additionally, the games will be widely
available in the traditional computer and software retail channels
throughout the country.
With this new initiative, Hasbro Interactive is at the very
forefront of establishing branded, high-quality interactive gaming for
the Windows CE platform, which until now has been characterized by
generic, non-branded shareware games. Capitalizing on its library of
well-recognized brands and games that people know and love, Hasbro
Interactive brings the fun of gaming onto multiple interactive
platforms, from the computer to console stations and now onto
Microsoft's operating system, Windows CE. The launch of Windows CE
games clearly reinforces Hasbro Interactive's leadership position as
an innovative, multi-platform interactive entertainment publisher.
