Session Border Control software streamlines SIP trunking services to the enterprise

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 27, 2012-- ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced that Session Border Control (SBC) software functionality has been added to its NetVanta^® 3430 and 6000 series, as well as Total Access^® 900e IP Business Gateways. This software package was developed to address the service providers need for a new demarcation device to handle normalization, security and monitoring for their SIP trunking services. These managed voice services provide the small to medium enterprise (SME) markets a flexible, low-cost and secure alternative to connect their Unified Communications solutions to the world. In addition, this new SBC functionality combined with Total Access 900e IP Business Gateways will enable service providers to offer a customer migration path as the proliferation of IP continues into the foreseeable future.

Used at the customer premise to address interworking and interoperability between the service provider’s VoIP network and the customer’s IP PBX, the NetVanta and Total Access devices with the SBC features will handle NAT/firewall traversal, VoIP protocol interworking, transcoding, media anchoring and provide numerous service provider troubleshooting tools. By moving this functionality to the edge of the enterprise network, service providers can more easily integrate directly with a wide variety of IP PBX vendors’ SIP trunking implementations. It also provides a clear point of demarcation that enables providers to gather valuable metrics and perform tests, as well as implement network disaster recovery, security and failover polices without having to modify a customer owned IP PBX. These new SBC features, coupled with the widely deployed Total Access and NetVanta devices, will make it simpler for service providers to extend their high-value SIP trunking services to a broad set of SME and business customers—a market that has been largely unaddressed.
