Industry leaders pave the way for further Gigabit services expansion
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr. 3, 2017--
Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation open
networking solutions, today announced it will co-host the International
Telecommunications Union’s Telecommunication Standardization Sector
(ITU-T) Q4/15 Group Meeting this week with AT&T at ADTRAN’s headquarters
in Huntsville, Ala., April 3-7, 2017. As a leader in broadband
access technology, this is the latest venue where the company is
lending its domain expertise to the industry. ADTRAN continues to be an
integral member of the ITU-T and contributor to its work in shaping and
driving telecom standards.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the ITU-T Q4/15
Group’s dedication to developing international standards for information
and communication technologies. As ITU-T’s only study group focusing on
copper access technology, it aims to cover the important
standardizations on DSL technologies, such as G.fast and VDSL2.
Attendees at this week’s meeting, including AT&T, British
Telecommunications and Deutsche Telekom, will look to accelerate new
G.fast features that achieve more symmetric service rates, higher
service rates and adaptation for delay critical applications.
“Advances in broadband technologies have narrowed the gap between what
has traditionally been available over fiber and what is now possible
over the copper infrastructure,” said Tom Starr, chairman of ITU-T
WP1/15. “Growing demand for network broadband speeds, coupled with
continuous development of vectoring technology by companies like ADTRAN,
present future opportunities for fiber and copper-based solutions. This
week we will progress these opportunities so that we can bring these
next-generation technologies to life quickly.”
“ADTRAN is honored to once again host the ITU-T Q4/15 standards meeting.
By working together with organizations like ITU-T to standardize G.fast
and VDSL2, ADTRAN is helping service providers expand their Gigabit
services footprint using their existing DSL infrastructure,” said
Richard Goodson, director of research, ADTRAN. “Our approach makes ultra
broadband a reality for urban deployments and multi-dwelling units,
creating a truly immersive experience that today’s consumers require.”
