BakBone Launches Federal Channel Program; Channel Program Leverages BakBone's Momentum in Federal Government Market

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2005--BakBone Software(TM) (TSX:BKB) (Pink Sheets:BKBO), a global provider of data protection software, today announced the launch of its Federal Channel Advantage program to increase federal sales of its award-winning NetVault backup and recovery software. The new initiative builds upon the Company's continuing traction with local and state government entities while supporting the unique data protection, compliance and business continuity demands of federal government agencies, including the State Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Congress. The Federal Channel Advantage program is also expected to help BakBone expand relationships with existing civilian and Department of Defense (DoD) agencies.

"BakBone is well positioned to implement a highly effective federal government channel program that capitalizes on our proven successes and in-depth field experiences working with commercial channel partners," said Scott Petersen, vice president of North American sales, BakBone. "We have already forged strategic alliances with several leading federal systems integrators, reinforced by our channel-centric approach that is designed to generate business opportunities and reduce sales cycles while easing procurement for customers."

According to Stephany Morris, who will head BakBone's Federal Sales Division from a dedicated BakBone federal sales office located in Northern Virginia, the Federal Channel Advantage program extends the success of the Company's commercial Channel Advantage Partner program, which was launched in July 2004. "The new Federal program provides both partners and end users with a single point of contact from BakBone to ensure rapid product delivery through channel partners and integrators, fast response times and improved customer service," she said. Current partners authorized to sell and support BakBone solutions include GTSI, FedTek, and GMRI.

"We are always looking for better ways to meet the needs of our customers through products and services that protect their critical data," said Steve Krauss, senior manager of GTSI's Enterprise Storage Practice. "We applaud BakBone's commitment and greater emphasis on serving federal government customers. We look forward to participating in BakBone's channel program which will help us give our customers the best support possible."

The Federal Channel Advantage program is designed to help new and existing BakBone partners reach new government customers through such benefits as:

  • Joint sales engagement opportunities with dedicated sales and technical resources
  • "Tool bag" of partner marketing resources including public relations, educational seminars, direct mail campaigns and lead referrals
  • Awareness capabilities via bakbone.com

"BakBone's NetVault offers our government customers a very competitively priced enterprise-class solution, bolstered by a superior sales and field engineering staff, as well as outstanding customer support," said Scott Deen, president of FedTek. "We are excited about BakBone's commitment to this market as evidenced by the valuable services, education and resources encompassed in the new Federal Channel Advantage program. We look forward to growing an already rewarding and profitable relationship."

In the government sector, the evaluation of data protection software is often driven by a growing need to deal with a shrinking work force. According to a 2005 workforce study conducted by research firm, INPUT, IT staff retirements in the government sector will increase over the next five years. BakBone's data protection software solves many of the challenges caused by this workforce trend by automating critical recovery processes, easing backup administration and integrating seamlessly with legacy systems.

BakBone's Federal Channel Advantage program is open to qualified systems integrators and channel partners that are committed to investing in the deployment of network storage solutions for the federal market. BakBone's NetVault products are available to federal, state and local government agencies on the GSA schedule through key government solutions partners.
