| CONSOL Energy Recognized for Outstanding Reclamation Work |
PITTSBURGH (October 13, 2008) – CONSOL Energy Inc. (NYSE:CNX) has received the National Association of State Land Reclamationist’s (NASLR) “Outstanding Reclamation Project of 2008” Award. The award was presented to CONSOL Energy during the group’s 37th annual conference, held this year at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania. CONSOL was recognized for reforestation efforts at its Illinois surface mines, (Burning Star No. 2, Burning Star No. 4 and Burning Star No. 5), where almost three million trees were planted on 3,000 acres of reclaimed mined land. CONSOL was recognized for exceeding all of the requirements of the reclamation laws. NASLR is an organization made up primarily of state government environmental professionals who regulate the reclamation of mined land throughout the country. CONSOL Energy Inc., a high-Btu bituminous coal and coal bed methane company, is a member of the Standard & Poor's 500 Equity Index and has annual revenues of $3.7 billion. It has 17 bituminous coal mining complexes in six states and reports proven and probable coal reserves of 4.5 billion tons.
