|HCA Appoints Charles R. Evans Eastern Group President|
NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- HCA (NYSE: HCA) today announced the appointment of Charles R. Evans as President of HCA's Eastern Group effective immediately.

Evans replaces Jay Grinney who recently left HCA to become Chief Executive Officer of HealthSouth.
As Eastern Group president, Evans will be responsible for HCA operations in the country east of the Mississippi River. The group currently includes approximately 100 hospitals in 10 states and approximately $11 billion of net revenue annually. Evans was most recently President of HCA's Southeast Division, based in Atlanta, with responsibility for 18 hospitals in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Evans, 57, joined HCA in 1995 as President of HCA's First Coast Health Network, consisting of four hospitals in the Jacksonville area. Following that in 1996 he was named President of the North Carolina Division, with responsibility for all HCA hospitals in North Carolina. Evans became President of the Mid America Division in Nashville in 1998 and assumed his most recent position as President of the Southeast Division in 2001.
Before joining HCA, he held several positions with Community Hospitals Indianapolis, a system of three hospitals, culminating as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Evans' career started as a counselor and social worker and he held various positions in the mental health field before joining Community Hospitals Indianapolis in 1980.
Evans earned a master of business administration in administration and management from Indiana University in 1984, a master of arts in counseling services from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1972, and a bachelor of arts in psychology from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1969. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of its Board of Governors, he has served on the boards of three hospital associations including Florida, Tennessee and Georgia.
