Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Richard M. Bracken is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nashville, Tennessee-based HCA, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services.

Bracken began his career with HCA in 1981 and has held various executive positions within the company, including Chief Executive Officer of the Green Hospital of Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in San Diego, California, and Chief Executive Officer of Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.  In 1995, Bracken was appointed President of HCA’s Pacific Division, Western Group President in 1997, Chief Operating Officer of the Company in July 2001, and President and Chief Operating Officer in January 2002.  He was elected to the HCA Board of Directors in November 2002, became President and Chief Executive Officer in January 2009, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in December 2009.

He has served on numerous professional and community boards, including the California Hospital Association, the Federation of American Hospitals, and the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville.  He is a member of the American Society of Corporate Executives, the Business Council, the Nashville Healthcare Council, the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee Board, and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He and his wife, Judith, reside in Nashville, and have four grown children.
