Detroit, Michigan, March 9, 2012 - American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings, Inc. (AAM) which is traded as AXL on the NYSE, today announced the opening of the AAM Winter Test Center in Arjeplog, Sweden. The facility is strategically located approximately 60 miles from the Arctic Circle, providing an optimal environment for customer collaboration, product validation and performance demonstration of AAM's latest advanced technologies.
The Test Center houses research, test and development areas, as well as private work zones designed to ensure customer confidentiality. The site provides access to 15 unique winter road surfaces and private lake test sites on the Colmis Proving Grounds.
"The AAM Winter Test Center is located in close proximity to several global OEM winter test facilities," said Group Vice President, Engineering, Product Development & Procurement Mark S. Barrett. "The long winter season with its extremely cold temperatures, significant measurable snow, and consistent icy conditions make it an ideal location for the test and development of AAM's industry-leading product technologies. These include AAM's EcoTrac(TM) brand of fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly all-wheel-drive systems and the e-AAM plug-in hybrid, electric all-wheel-drive, and electric vehicle systems."
"e-AAM is building strong brand recognition with European and Global OEMs as a technology leader for Advancing Electric Drive(TM) and the Winter Test Center is just another example of our commitment to support our customers with world-class testing and research," said e-AAM Managing Director Ronald Schoenbach.
