Ferrellgas Employees Provide Disaster Cleanup Assistance in Joplin

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Aug. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --

Choosing to forego their desk jobs for a day of manual labor, approximately 150 corporate Employees from Overland Park, Kansas-based Ferrellgas Partners, L.P. (NYSE: FGP) spent Tuesday removing debris from two Joplin, Missouri, parks that were damaged May 22 by one of the deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history.

According to Mike Pickerel, Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) Coordinator for the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, the contingent from Ferrellgas is the second largest volunteer group to visit the city, second only to players, coaches, and front office workers from the Kansas City Chiefs, who visited Joplin in late June.

Cunningham Park and Parr Hill Park were at the center of the tornado's destructive path, and were littered with glass, nails, pieces of shingling, and other small debris. Thanks to members of the Ferrellgas group, the two parks are one step closer to being enjoyed once again by local residents.

"Ferrellgas is very active in organizations such as the Dream Factory of Kansas City and the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired, so we have a long tradition helping children," says President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Wambold, who participated in the Joplin cleanup efforts. "Rolling up our sleeves and cleaning up these two local parks seemed like a logical way for us to spend the day. I'm extremely proud of the small part we were able to play in helping the city of Joplin return to normalcy."
