The Candie's Foundation Helps Raise Awareness That May 8th Is National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Day

NEW YORK, May 7, 2002 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The Candie's Foundation, who is committed to reducing teen pregnancy in the Unites States is helping raise awareness that May 8th, is National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Day. The Foundation will generate awareness for the day though numerous initiatives in New York, Los Angeles, and other major cities, including:

    *  The Candie's Foundation will kick off the day with a slew of gorgeous
       models standing outside of NBC's, "Today" Show, and ABC's "Good
       Morning America" sporting "Be Sexy, It Doesn't Mean You Have To Have
       Sex" Foundation tank tops, holding banners stating that almost
       one million teenage girls will become pregnant this year

    *  New York's #1 hit music station, Z100's Morning Zoo will talk about the
       day, and direct listeners to candiesfoundation.org for more information
       Singer/ Actress Joy Enriquez will give-a-way "Be Sexy" tank tops at a
       live performance on LA's Kiss FM

    *  While other celebrities will call into their local radio stations to
       promote the day

    *  ABC's hit morning talk show, "The View", will give a-way over 200
       "Be Sexy, It Doesn't Mean You Have To Have Sex" tank tops to their
       audience and talk about May 8th.  Ricki Lake, spokesperson for The
       National Campaign To Prevent Teen Pregnancy will be a guest on "The
       View" speaking about the consequences of teen pregnancy and her
       involvement with The Campaign

    *  20 teens will be outside of MTV's TRL studio wearing "Be Sexy" tank
       tops holding the banners

    *  Street team will be out around New York and the surrounding boroughs
       handing out postcards, stickers, and give-a-ways to promote the day

    *  The Foundation has placed ads in entertainment and lifestyle magazines
       such as People Magazine

    *  Online efforts include: Pop-up windows on Candies.com, Bongo.com, and
       candiesfoundation.org directing users to take a quiz on
       teenpregnancy.org to find out how much they know about sex, and an
       email blast to users promoting the day and the quiz

    *  Candie's in-store retail efforts consist of: Candie's sales associates
       wearing The Candie's Foundation tank tops, with every purchase in a
       Candie's store consumers receive postcards that ask the question ...

       quiz at http://www.candiesfoundation.org, http://www.teenpregnancy.org,
       and http://www.teenpeople.com.  All Candie's retail stores will also
       prominently display signage promoting the day

Since its launch The Candie's Foundation has reached over 100 million teens with its message of teen pregnancy prevention. The Foundation has created an effective Public Service Awareness Campaign, which launched this past fall. Participants include Usher, *NSYNC, Destiny's Child, Macy Gray, Jenny McCarthy, Dixie Chicks, and others. Participating publications include Cosmopolitan, InStyle, Elle and many others.
