NEW YORK, NY, Mar 17, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --

Con Edison ranked 17th among Corporate Responsibility Magazine's "Best 100 Corporate Citizens" and second among all the utilities in the ranking, according to the magazine's 12th annual survey.

Corporate Responsibility Magazine's annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens list (http://2sustain.com/2011/03/cr-magazine%E2%80%99s-100-best-corporate-citizens-for-2011.html) is known as one of the world's top corporate responsibility rankings based on publicly-available information, and is recognized by PR Week as one of America's top three most-important business rankings.

Data for the rankings were gathered from 100-percent, publicly-available sources and computed by IW Financial, a Portland, Maine-based financial analysis firm serving the Environment-Social-Governance (ESG) investment community. Evaluation categories for the rankings included climate change abatement, corporate governance, employee relations, environmental impact, financial performance, human rights and philanthropy.

"Corporate social responsibility and citizenship are high priorities for Con Edison," said Frances A. Resheske, Con Edison's senior vice president of Public Affairs. "Our employees live in the areas we serve, and our company's commitment to support our diverse constituencies is a source of pride for all of us."
