Prime Day sales globally surpassed Black Friday and Cyber Monday, all on a day with deals reserved exclusively for Prime members

Prime members’ most popular purchase on Prime Day in the UK was the Amazon Echo

The Prime Day 2017 event grew by more than 60 percent over last year globally – sales growth by small businesses and entrepreneurs was even higher

London – 12^th July, 2017 – On a day with incredible deals reserved exclusively for Prime members, sales on 11^th July surpassed Black Friday and Cyber Monday globally, making it the biggest day ever in Amazon history. With hundreds of thousands of deals, this year’s Prime Day was too big for 24 hours – so Prime members had 30 hours to shop. The Prime Day 2017 event grew by more than 60 percent compared to the same 30 hours last year, and sales growth by small businesses and entrepreneurs was even higher.  More new members joined Prime on July 11 than on any single day in Amazon history. Tens of millions of Prime members made a purchase on Prime Day 2017, more than 50 percent higher than the prior year.

Prime members’ most popular purchase globally was the Echo Dot, which was not only the best-selling Amazon device this Prime Day, but also the best-selling product from any manufacturer in any category across Amazon globally. Prime Day 2017 was also the biggest sales event ever for Amazon devices in the U.S. and around the world, including record sales for Echo, Fire tablets and Kindle devices. The all new Element 55-inch 4K Ultra HD smart LED TV – Amazon Fire TV Edition was the best-selling TV deal in Amazon history – selling through record units in less than four hours. Global Highlights from Prime Day 2017

• A record number of Prime members shopped across 13 countries.
• Prime members purchased seven times more Amazon Echo devices globally than on Prime Day 2016.
• Members saved hundreds of millions of dollars on product discounts globally, compared to the already low prices offered to non-Prime customers. 
• More than 3.5 million toys were purchased by customers worldwide on Prime Day 2017.
• Tens of millions of customers used the Amazon App on Prime Day. Customer orders on the Amazon App more than doubled this Prime Day compared to last year.   

UK Highlights from the third annual Prime Day

• More people tried Prime on Prime Day 2017, compared to Black Friday 2016, Cyber Monday 2016 and any day this year
• The best-selling Amazon device in the UK was the Amazon Echo, which was also the best-selling item on Prime Day in the UK overall
• Other top sellers, excluding Amazon devices, were: an Oral-B Smart Series Electric Rechargeable Toothbrush with Bluetooth Connectivity, a Bosch Cordless Combi Drill, Joe Wicks’ The Lean in 15 Collection of books and the Sony Playstation 4
• One of the fastest Amazon Prime Now deliveries on Prime Day was an Amazon Echo which was ordered at 14:46, sent out from Amazon’s Erdington delivery station in Birmingham and delivered at 15:00: to a postcode in Sutton Coldfield, taking just 14 minutes and 8 seconds from click to delivery.
• Children up and down the country will be excited to play with over 309,000 toys
• Gamers purchased tens of thousands of consoles
• Music lovers bought over 45,000 sets of headphones
• Green fingered Brits ordered over 12,000 seeds and plants
• Budding chefs bought over 52,000 kitchen items including 16,000 pieces of cookware
• Customers will be looking stunning as over 62,000 skincare products, 36,000 hair care, 66,000 makeup items and 25,000 pieces of nail care were ordered
• Plenty of DIY projects will be getting underway as over 232,000 home improvement products were bought with over 37,000 power tools ordered
• Brits are getting into shape for summer as over 31,000 exercise and fitness products and over 13,000 sports shoes were bought
• Dentists will be delighted as over 32,000 toothbrushes and oral care appliances were purchased
• Campers purchased over 60,000 new tents and other camping gear

Prime Members Love Movies, Music and Books

In the week leading up to Prime Day 2017, Prime members enjoyed Prime Video, Prime Reading, Amazon Music and Audible, streaming and downloading more than two times compared to last year. Also in the week leading up to Prime Day, the most downloaded Kindle Unlimited book was Stillhouse Lake and the most streamed song on Amazon Music was “Something Just Like This” by the Chainsmokers & Coldplay.

Small Business and Entrepreneur Highlights from the third annual Prime Day

Prime Day 2017 was another record-breaking success for small businesses and entrepreneurs worldwide who participated in the event. Feedback from sellers in the UK during Prime Day included:
