RICHMOND, Va. (February 8, 2010)-CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, announced today that The CarMax Foundation has awarded the Texas Lions Camp in  Kerrville, Texas, near San Antonio, a $22,500 grant as part of the Foundation’s Regional Giving Program.

Texas Lions Camp received the funds for the Summer Camp of 2010.  Each week-long camp hosts hundreds of Texas children ages eight through 15 with type 1 diabetes, and includes workshops and activities that help them understand diabetes and how to live a productive life with the disease.  The participants have a chance to interact with peers facing similar issues and a medical team that teaches nutrition and diabetes care.

“These camps are all about education, self esteem and fun,” said Guido Merkens, Southwest Regional Giving Committee chairperson and CarMax location general manager in San Antonio.  “We enjoyed volunteering at last summer’s camp events, and we are honored to be among the supporters of this great organization.”

The CarMax Foundation’s Regional Giving Program reinforces CarMax's commitment to funding programs that improve local communities. The Regional Giving Program provides grants to qualifying nonprofit organizations that have programs focused on education and youth leadership.  CarMax associates working within each of the regions select the local organizations to recommend for grants.

Texas Lions Camp, located in Kerrville, Texas, is a summer camping facility dedicated to serving children from the State of Texas with physical disabilities and cancer between the ages of 7 and 16 years old, and children with Type 1 Diabetes between the ages of 8 and 15 years old.
