Nashville Health Care Executive Appointed to US Youth Soccer Board of Directors

Healthspring’s Morris First Tennessean to Serve on  US Youth Soccer Board of Directors

NASHVILLE (August 6,  2012) – Nashville-area health care executive Shawn Morris has been  appointed as one of two Independent Director positions on the US Youth Soccer  Board of Directors,  US Youth Soccer  representatives announced today. Morris’ appointment marks the first time that  a Tennessee resident has served on the Board of the largest youth sports  organization in the nation.

“Highly creative and successful people like Shawn will  help craft the future for US Youth Soccer,” said Andrew Bolt, President of the  Tennessee State Soccer Association, the US Youth Soccer state affiliate that  nominated Morris for the position. “We are thrilled about this appointment and  are confident that Shawn will make an immediate positive contribution to the  Board.”

The independent director role is a new position that gives  US Youth Soccer and their Board of Directors outside input from highly  successful, independent board members.

US Youth Soccer Executive Director Jim Cosgrove said that  Morris’ reputation as a business innovator was a major factor in his  appointment. “Shawn’s ability to drive innovation and his track record of  success in a large, multi-market organization mirrors both the need and the  environment at US Youth Soccer,” Cosgrove said.

Morris is President of Development and Innovation for  HealthSpring, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cigna Corporation and leading health  service company committed to helping America’s seniors live healthier lives  through personalized, affordable and easy-to-use health care solutions. Morris  is responsible for strategic direction, business development, emerging market  development, M&A activities as well as clinical innovation.

Morris earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from  Western Kentucky University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a  Certified Financial Planner. He is and has been actively involved on multiple  boards of for-profit and not-for-profit entities and is a member of the  American Society of CPAs and National Association of Corporate Directors. He  and his wife, Tina, have three children and live in Hendersonville.
