Community Giving

At Nordstrom, we have a long-standing commitment to supporting the communities we serve. This support takes the form of cash contributions, community partnerships and volunteerism. Our selected areas of focus are arts and culture, education, health, community development and the environment, with diversity playing a key role.

Contributions Guidelines
Please see our Contributions Guidelines, shown below.

Eligibility
To be eligible for contributions, organizations must:
  • Qualify for nonprofit status under the Internal Revenue Code
  • Benefit the local communities served by Nordstrom
  • Demonstrate sound and responsible financial policies and management
  • Satisfy Nordstrom that the project is not an unnecessary duplication

We prefer giving cash contributions so the nonprofit receives the maximum benefit. For this reason, we do not donate merchandise, gift cards, samples, shopping bags or other supplies.

As a rule, we do not make contributions for:

  • Unrestricted operating funds of organizations already receiving funding from United Way
  • Individual scholarships
  • Funds for individuals
  • Projects of a political nature
  • Individual primary or secondary schools
  • Pageants or talent competitions
  • Religious organizations for sectarian purposes
  • Special-occasion, goodwill or program advertising
  • Table purchases for fundraising events
  • Loans or investments
  • Auctions, raffles or opportunity drawings
  • Team sponsorships or fundraising competitions
  • Production of films, videotapes, recordings, publications or displays
  • Merchandise promotions
  • Conferences or conventions
  • Event underwriting

Application Procedures
If the organization or program meets the eligibility requirements, please submit in writing:
  • A concise description, including purpose and objectives
  • Amount of request
  • Proof of nonprofit status under Internal Revenue Code
  • List of officers and directors
  • History of organization
  • Recent annual report

Most contributions are determined annually by the regional office. Requests must be received by October 1 for the following year. Organizations will be notified in January of the status of their request.

Contributions to a project imply no further commitment unless specifically stated at the time of initial funding. Please direct any questions, inquiries or applications to the location that supports your area:
