In her 70s, Tina Turner Still Rocks in Hanes Hosiery's Sexy Legs Survey
- Not to worry for Valentine's Day, more than 20% of men and women prefer sweetheart's legs over those of celebrities -

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Feb 10, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Tina Turner, the septuagenarian rock legend still has the legs to dance her way to the top - once again being named the celebrity with the sexiest gams. The Private Dancer singer edged out actress Jennifer Aniston and singer Beyonce Knowles in the Sexy Celebrity Legs Survey sponsored by Hanes Hosiery, the top-selling sheer hosiery manufacturer in America.

Turner first topped the sexiest legs survey in 1997, three years after Hanes Hosiery initiated it. The voting for candidates in the latest survey, conducted online in December by Harris Interactive, was close. The results included:

  • Tina Turner, 18 percent of the vote
  • Jennifer Aniston, 17 percent.
  • Beyonce Knowles, 16 percent
  • Country music star Taylor Swift, 7 percent.
  • Tennis star Maria Sharapova, 6 percent.
  • Pop music sensation Lady Gaga, 2 percent.

Voting varies by gender and age

While Tina Turner still reigns overall, men and women don't see eye to eye on legs, according to the survey. Beyonce is tops for men, with 19 percent giving her the leg up, but 25 percent of women voted Turner's legs sexiest. Aniston was runner-up for both men and women.

Beyonce topped the list of younger adults (ages 18 to 34) with 22 percent of the vote, whereas 24 percent of older adults (ages 55+) gave the nod to Turner. Again, Aniston was runner-up for both age groups.

Sweethearts hold their own

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, romance is alive at home, with 22 percent of adults who have a preference prefer the legs of their significant other over a specific celebrity's.

Other Findings At-A-Glance

  • Color Me Nude. Nude pantyhose are the most preferred style of legwear among those with a preference - 2 in 5 women (40 percent) and more than 1 in 3 men (34 percent).
  • If I Could Change. Of those who would change something about their legs, thinner legs was the top response for women (28 percent), followed by firmer legs (20 percent) and fewer visible veins (18 percent).
  • What Men Want. Men preferred leg-baring short skirts (39 percent) over low-cut necklines (33 percent) as their favored clothing style for women.
  • Calves carry the legs. For adults who think their legs are good looking, their calves are the reason why for men and women (57 percent and 59 percent respectively).
  • Doing My Best. More than half of the adults surveyed (54 percent) do something to keep their legs looking "their best." Exercise was most popular (74 percent).

The Methodology

On behalf of Hanes Hosiery, Harris Interactive conducted the survey online among 2,024 adults ages 18 and older within the United States from Dec. 13 to 15, 2010. This online survey is not based on a probability sample, and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
