| US Airways Announces Three New European Destinations From Its Philadelphia Hub |
The Airline Will Begin Nonstop Service to Athens, Brussels, and Zurich TEMPE, Ariz., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- US Airways (NYSE: LCC) customers will have more ways to jet off to Europe thanks to new flights from Philadelphia to Athens, Greece; Brussels, Belgium, and Zurich, Switzerland starting this summer. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050223/LAW097LOGO ) With these new flights to Athens, Brussels and Zurich -- scheduled to start in May and June -- US Airways will offer a total of 22 daily flights to 19 cities in 12 countries throughout Europe during the peak summer season. "These three new European destinations strengthen Philadelphia's growing role as an international gateway for business and leisure passengers," said US Airways Chairman and CEO Doug Parker. "We could not be adding this new service without the leadership and support of Mayor Street, Airport Director Charles Isdell and Director of Commerce Stephanie Nadoff. We are working hard with Mayor Street and the airport to ensure new, additional international capability for even more international service next year. "These new destinations demonstrate our commitment to our customers, our Philadelphia hub and European and international growth prospects," Parker said. Customers from more than 50 cities across the U.S. and Canada will find convenient connections available via Philadelphia to these new European destinations, as well as 16 other European cities in the US Airways network. Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street said, "For many years, US Airways has championed the citizens and business community of Philadelphia. We anticipate this new service will help solidify Philadelphia as a major international gateway and continue to positively affect our economy." These new offerings are subject to foreign government approval. US Airways will fly one daily year round round-trip from Philadelphia to Brussels beginning June 1 and from Philadelphia to Zurich beginning June 8. The Philadelphia-Athens flights are slated to begin May 25 and end October 6. All flights will operate with either Boeing 757 or 767 aircraft equipped with Envoy business class seating.
