Rockwell Automation Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Allen-Bradley Brand

Milwaukee, Jan. 30, 2003 - Rockwell Automation, Inc. (NYSE: ROK), a world-leading provider of industrial automation power, control and information solutions, begins 2003 with a year-long celebration of the centennial anniversary of the Allen-Bradley® brand. The company is planning several special tributes throughout the year that will recognize the rich history of the brand and its many contributions to the automation industry.

What began as an entrepreneurial idea for two Milwaukee men and a $1,000 investment, has 100 years later turned into the marquee brand of a $4 billion industry leader with more than 22,000 employees in 450 locations around the world. Lynde Bradley and Dr. Stanton Allen, pioneers in developing many of the early industrial automation devices, founded the Compression Rheostat Company in 1903 and in 1910 renamed it the Allen-Bradley Company. Rockwell International purchased the company in 1985 for $1.651 billion, the largest acquisition in Wisconsin's history. The Allen-Bradley name became one of the strong legacy brands among Rockwell Automation's offerings of automation control solutions for manufacturers. Today, manufacturing plants are equipped with computers that oversee all aspects of the manufacturing process. It is these computers, with automated design, production and record-keeping processes, that carry the Allen-Bradley brand and are a major part of the business of Rockwell Automation.
