SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 2007--Washington Mutual, Inc.
(NYSE:WM) was recently recognized as the only bank among the top 25
best providers of customer service in a ranking by BusinessWeek.
WaMu, cited by the magazine for being known as a pioneer of free
checking and for speedy service, was ranked No. 14 on the
"BusinessWeek Customer Service Champs" list. WaMu was specifically
noted for being an "industry disrupter," and a company that offers a
"customer-friendly alternative" in a field "long plagued by poor
service." In terms of speedy service, the ranking noted that 62
percent of respondents reported problems were solved by WaMu in one
day or less.

The magazine's first-ever ranking of customer service brands was
announced in an article posted on the publication's online website
late last week. The cover story article for its March 5 issue is
scheduled to hit newsstands later this week. The BusinessWeek ranking
was based on information gathered through a J.D. Power & Associates
database with feedback from over 3,000 readers in addition to a
Web-based survey of 100 customers.
WaMu, through its subsidiaries, is one of the nation's leading
