SEATTLE, Sep 09, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Washington Mutual, Inc. (NYSE:WM) today announced
additional aid to local groups supporting recovery efforts, and that
company and employee contributions could reach $1 million in
assistance for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
$300,000 has been committed to local organizations engaged in
relief efforts, and the company will match $250,000 in employee
donations for a potential total of $500,000 in additional financial
assistance. These contributions supplement Washington Mutual's
previously announced $100,000 contribution to the American Red Cross,
and its $100,000 commitment to the Washington Cares initiative, a
matching fund opportunity for residents in Washington state.
Washington Mutual is also providing 5 of its call centers,
technology, and 500 employee volunteers to support the national
telethon "The Shelter from the Storm: A concert for the Gulf Coast," a
live broadcast on six major networks to raise additional hurricane
relief funds. The call centers are located in Canyon Park, Wash.,
Chatsworth, Calif., Albion, N.Y., Milwaukee, and Jacksonville, Fla.

people affected by Hurricane Katrina feel and to help them get back on

The company's disaster relief program for customers located in the Federally declared disaster areas include penalty-free CD withdrawals, reduced interest rates on home equity loans, quick approval on personal lines of credit, and alternate payment plans for loan customers including an automatic 90-day payment extension. For mortgage-related concerns, customers can call 800-472-1254 between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. (PT), Monday through Friday, and 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday. For deposit account questions, customers can call 800-788-7000 for assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In cities around the country, Washington Mutual employees are
actively involved in the relief effort by donating supplies for
evacuees, by volunteering at shelters and coordinating blood drives.
