ADVISORY/Washington Mutual Awards $12,239 to Idaho Schools as Part of Its WaMoola for Schools Program; Boise-area Checks Presented At Special Luncheon

WHAT: Washington Mutual (NYSE:WM) will present $12,239 to local Idaho
    schools as part of its WaMoola for Schools Program. School
    principals and staff in Ada County are invited to a special
    luncheon, where they will receive individual checks for their
    schools.

    Under the Wamoola for Schools Program, the bank donates $1 to
    local schools and school districts for every new checking account
    opened. In 2000, more than 1.4 million people opened new checking
    accounts -- translating into a record level of school funding
    offered under the program. The funds, which are earmarked for
    teacher development and support programs, are presented each year
    to local schools.

WHEN: Friday, May 25, 2001
    Noon to 2 p.m.; check presentations will be made at approximately
    1 p.m.

WHERE: Grove Hotel, 245 South Capitol Boulevard, Boise, Idaho.

WHO: Bob Bond, Washington Mutual Consumer Bank Group Manager for
    Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Nevada, will speak. Stan Frazier,
    regional manager, is also available for interviews.
