ADVISORY/Last Lil' Oinker Corralled - Just in Time for Pigs on Parade
       --(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 2001--

WHAT: Washington Mutual will unveil the last Lil' Oinker - just in
time for Saturday's Pigs on Parade benefiting the Pike Place
         Market Foundation based in Seattle.

In typical WaMu fashion, the unveiling will be surrounded by
festivities and the public is invited:

o Piggy bank handouts.

o Potbellied pig performances.

o Special guest appearance by Mr. Coinhead (WaMu's school
         savings program mascot)

o Prizes.

The WaMu pig is designed by renowned artist Cathy McClure,
         and (shh...it's a secret ...) features a roller-coaster
design and a coin-operated gum ball contraption.

WHEN: Thursday, May 24

WHERE: Washington Mutual Tower Plaza, 1201 Third Ave. (facing
Second Avenue), 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (note: unveiling is at 11:20; pot
belly pigs perform at 11:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m.)

WHO: Deanna Oppenheimer, president of Washington Mutual's Banking
and Financial Services Group, will unveil the pig.

WHY? Pigs on Parade is a public art project that benefits the Pike
Place Market Foundation. Washington Mutual's pig is one of more than
80 that will parade through downtown Seattle streets on May 26. The
pigs will then be on display and eventually auctioned later this year.
