Washington Mutual Selects Geoffrey Lang To Head Technology Division's Vendor Management Group
SEATTLE, Dec 12, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Washington Mutual, Inc. (NYSE:WM) today announced that it has selected Geoffrey Lang to serve as senior vice president of vendor management in the company's corporate technology division.

In the newly-created position, Lang will oversee and manage all information technology services provided to the bank via third parties. Among his day-to-day and long-term responsibilities, Lang will work to ensure vendor accountability, quality control, and competitive pricing. In addition, Lang will guide all strategic planning that relates to technology procurement, sourcing and contract administration.

"Because a substantial amount of our IT resources reside outside the company, it's imperative that we constantly monitor and evaluate our relationships with vendors," said Jerry Gross, chief information officer at Washington Mutual. "Geoff's expertise enables us to take full advantage of our relationships with vendors so that, together, we can achieve optimal results for WaMu customers."

Before joining Washington Mutual, Lang was a senior vice president at Bank One where he was responsible for business and partner management, overseeing budgets in excess of $450 million. Earlier in his career, Lang spent more than 20 years at International Business Machines (IBM) where he held a number of executive positions in marketing and technology. At the time of his departure from IBM in 1999, he managed the company's financial services business unit and led a team of more than 200 employees. Lang has a master's in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Maryville College in Tennessee.

With a history dating back to 1889, Washington Mutual is a national financial services company that provides a diversified line of products and services to consumers and small- to mid-sized businesses. At Sept. 30, 2001, Washington Mutual and its subsidiaries had consolidated assets of $223.64 billion.
