Washington Mutual Selects Wolff Olins as Brand Agency of Record

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 25, 2005--Washington Mutual, Inc. (NYSE: WM) today announced it has selected Wolff Olins as its brand agency of record.

Wolff Olins, founded in 1965, is an international brand consultancy with offices in London, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Barcelona. The agency is noted for its strategic and visionary work for clients with both national and international presences.

According to Chris Matthews, Washington Mutual senior vice president of Advertising and Branding, Wolff Olins was selected after an extensive national search. "The financial services industry has become increasingly competitive," he said. "We believe Wolff Olins will be an important partner in helping us to further leverage our overall brand strategy and better enable our consumer-friendly approach to stand out from competitors."

Eric Scott, CEO of Wolff Olins LLC, said, "We are proud and delighted to partner with a company as innovative and growth-oriented as Washington Mutual has been and will continue to be."

Matthews added, "We are tremendously impressed with Wolff Olins and their national branding experience with other top Fortune 100 companies, and believe they will enable us to further enhance our brand position as the nation's leading provider of financial services for middle-market consumers and small businesses."

Washington Mutual disclosed in August that it had put its mass market advertising account up for review. The company expects to complete its advertising review by year-end. Matthews said that Wolff Olins will work in tandem with Washington Mutual's chosen advertising agency to further solidify the company's unique brand position nationally.
