Washington Mutual Names Todd Baker Executive Vice President of Corporate Development
SEATTLE, Jan 7, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Washington Mutual, Inc. (NYSE:WM) today announced that the company has named Todd Baker to the newly-created position of executive vice president of corporate development.

Baker joins the company from Los Angeles-based law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, where he was partner in the San Francisco office.

In his new role, Baker will be responsible for the building of and the day-to-day management of the company's merger and acquisitions group.

"Todd will be a key player in further developing our merger and acquisitions capabilities to support the strategic goals of our business units," said Craig Tall, vice chair of corporate development and specialty finance for Washington Mutual. "His in-depth knowledge of our company and his expertise in financial services businesses combine to make him a valuable addition to our team."

Prior to joining Washington Mutual, Baker was a partner at Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher, where he was the lead attorney in major mergers and acquisitions for financial services, technology, corporate and investment banking clients, including Bank of America, Transamerica Corp., GlobalCenter, Inc., PeopleSoft, Inc., Del Monte Corp and Montgomery Securities. Baker was also co-chairman of the firm's Underwriting Practice Group.

He has worked previously as outside counsel for Washington Mutual in the company's acquisitions of H.F. Ahmanson & Co., Keystone Holdings (parent company of American Savings Bank) and Pacific First Bank.

Baker received his bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College and his J.D. degree from Stanford Law School, where he was a member of the Stanford Law Review.
