|Washington Mutual Names Alan Magleby SVP, Investor Relations|
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 2004--Washington Mutual, Inc. (NYSE:WM) today announced that Alan Magleby, 51, will join the company beginning September 13 as Senior Vice President of Investor Relations.
Magleby, who most recently was Senior Vice President and Deputy Director of Investor Relations for JP Morgan Chase & Co., will oversee all aspects of Washington Mutual's investor relations function, including day-to-day management of the Investor Relations team and be a primary contact for the investment community. He will also be responsible for leading the coordination of key investor events, such as the company's annual Investor Day. He will be located in New York and will report to Tom Casey, the company's Chief Financial Officer.
Since 2001, Magleby has been Senior Vice President and Deputy Director of Investor Relations for JP Morgan Chase, where he was responsible for managing relationships with sell-side analysts and buy-side investors on a daily basis. During his tenure, JP Morgan Chase's Investor Relations department was voted best Investor Relations department by the Financial Services Analyst Association in 2002 and was the runner-up for two Investor Relations Magazine awards in 2003 in the Best Disclosure and Best Annual Report categories.

Magleby is a seasoned finance and investor relations professional who began his career in 1976 in the International Loan Accounting Division of Manufacturers Hanover Trust (MHT). He held several positions at MHT, including controllership and analyst positions prior to becoming Chief Financial Officer of Chase Manhattan Bank/Chemical Bank's Asia Pacific division from 1993-2000. Following his return from Asia, Magleby served as Chief Financial Officer of Investment Banking Coverage and M&A for JP Morgan Chase until 2001.
Magleby has a Bachelor of Sciences, Accounting from Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
