|Washington Mutual Funds ``Home Loan'' for Jack's Beanstalk in New York City's Times Square|
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2003-- ``Whatever your dream home is, we have your loan,'' reads WaMu's record size out-of-home advertisement
Washington Mutual (NYSE:WM), a retailer of consumer financial services, has unveiled an 80 foot tall, 60 foot wide, out-of-home advertisement that wraps around the North and East sides of the Five Times Square building in New York City. The advertisement will resemble the children's book Jack and the Beanstalk, accompanied with the message "Whatever your dream home is, we have your loan." The three-dimensional billboard is a striking visual representation of Washington Mutual's customer-focused approach to the home loan process.
Developed by agency Sedgwick Rd., WaMu's advertisements incorporate the company's fresh and light-hearted approach to reaching its customers. Times Square, known as the center for business and tourism, was the chosen location for its high visibility with 37 million annual tourists and 1.5 million total passing through each day.
"Our Jack and the Beanstalk is truly one-of-a-kind," said Dave King, senior vice president of advertising and brand management for Washington Mutual's Home Loans and Insurance Services Group. "We're using a memorable childhood folk tale to evoke an emotional resonance across multiple target audiences. It makes people stop and consider the message that their dream home can be a reality."
The new billboard can be viewed at 42nd and 7th Avenue, at Five Times Square. This is the third out-of-home spectacular Washington Mutual has displayed in New York City. The most recent was built in October 2001 at 42nd Street and Broadway and included three separate "life-size" homes. Since 2000, Washington Mutual has had significant out-of-home advertisements in Times Square.
