Washington Mutual's Corporate Technology Division Announces Mike Spalter as Senior Vice President
SEATTLE, Jan 17, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Washington Mutual, Inc. (NYSE:WM) today announced that it has named Mike Spalter senior vice president of infrastructure services in the company's corporate technology division.

Spalter brings more than 15 years of information technology experience to the position and will be responsible for the management of all of Washington Mutual's technology infrastructure including data centers, tandem systems and operations, and network services.

"Mike will lead us in delivering a high performance infrastructure that enables our company to achieve aggressive business goals," said Jerry Gross, chief information officer at Washington Mutual. "Mike's expertise and experience in financial services technology provides a great fit for this position and we look forward to his contributions moving forward."

Previously, Spalter spent 10 years at Countrywide Home Loans, Inc., where he most-recently served as executive vice president of IT infrastructure. As EVP at the Fortune 500 company, Spalter oversaw an IT organization of more than 350 employees and managed budgets exceeding $100 million. While at Countrywide, he also served in executive positions responsible for enterprise network services, network computing, and data communications. Earlier in his career, Spalter held manager positions at Computerized Office Consultants in Woodland Hills, Calif. and S.E. Rykoff and Co. in Los Angeles. Spalter is a 1985 graduate of the University of California, Northridge where he earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and is currently working on a master's in information technology.
