Press Release
Pittsburgh Pirates™/Build-A-Bear Workshop® Day Sponsored by Bayer Celebrates Teddy Bears and Baseball
In attendance on May 1, will be families from the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). As part of the ongoing relationship between Build-A-Bear Workshop and JDRF, four children will be recognized before the game. Each of these kids submitted an essay in the JDRF national essay contest and based on their essay have been selected to attend the Children's Congress in Washington DC this June.
Build-A-Bear Workshop Founder and Chief Executive Bear, Maxine Clark commented, "The Pittsburgh Pirates are a wonderful partner and we are pleased to be working with them this year. Teddy bears are known for their hugs and we are happy that Bucco will be giving and getting a lot of hugs on game day. We are also honored to share the day with our friends from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation."
As part of the promotion, three Build-A-Bear Workshop stores in the Pittsburgh metro area participated in a Guest sweepstakes. One winner from each store received four tickets to the May 1 game and four Bucco bears. In addition to the Pirates, Build-A-Bear Workshop® has game day partnerships with other teams including the New York Mets™, Chicago Cubs™, St. Louis Cardinals™, and Kansas City Royals™. In Philadelphia, Cleveland and Cincinnati Build-A-Bear Workshop has opened unique stores in the ball parks that give fans the opportunity to make their own team mascot.

About Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the leading charitable funder
and advocate of juvenile (type 1) diabetes research worldwide, was founded in
1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes - a disease which strikes
children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life, and carries the constant
threat of devastating complications. Since inception, JDRF has provided more
than $800 million in direct funding to diabetes research. More than 80 percent
of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications
through the support of research.
