LAKE GROVE, NY, AUGUST XX, 2004 - Lindsay Motlin of Bohemia (second from left) was the recent recipient of a special Simon Youth Foundation Build-A-Bear Workshop Endowed Community Scholarship during a ceremony at the Build-A-Bear Workshop store at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove. Lindsay was the only high school senior to be awarded the one-time scholarship of $500 by Simon Youth Foundation® (SyF), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing educational and career development opportunities to youth. The special scholarship was established with donations made to SyF from Build-A-Bear Workshop.

Smith Haven Mall Director of Mall Marketing, Kathleen Herrmann, (second from right) and Smith Haven Mall General Manager, Jim Lundgren, (right) kicked off the check presentation ceremony by providing welcoming remarks and introducing Lindsay, who will apply her scholarship toward tuition costs at the University of Pennsylvania this fall where she will study chemical and bio-molecular engineering. In addition to her award, Lindsay also received a personalized graduation bear, presented by Build-A-Bear Workshop Chief Workshop Manager Andrew Philips.

The valedictorian of her graduating class, Lindsay excelled in her studies at Connetquot High School in Bohemia, where she served as treasurer for Tri-M and was a member of the National Honor Society and Foreign Language Honor Society. She also played drums in her high school's marching band and participated in All-County and All-State Symphonic Orchestra. Active in the community, Lindsay volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, Teen Action Service Corps and teaches religion at B'nai Israel Reform Temple in Oakdale.

quot;Through the Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship Program, we have the opportunity to support the academic endeavors of promising youth in our community," said Director of Mall Marketing Kathleen Herrmann. "We are pleased that Lindsay has been selected as a recipient of this special Simon Youth Foundation Build-A-Bear Workshop Endowed Community Scholarship, exemplifying excellence in scholarship, leadership and volunteerism."

The Build-A-Bear Workshop® Endowed Scholarship, a special category under the SyF Community Scholarship program, is awarded on an annual basis. Scholarship recipients were selected by the SyF third party administrator Scholarship Management Services, a program of Scholarship America, St. Peter, Minnesota, the nation's largest nonprofit private-sector scholarship and educational support organization. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, standardized test scores, service to school and community and letters of reference.

As part of the company's philosophy to give back to the community, Build-A-Bear Workshop has donated over $29,000 to the Simon Youth Foundation with plans to award one scholarship per year. Funding initially came from festivities associated with the 100th Build-A-Bear Workshop store grand-opening at Roosevelt Field in 2002. In addition to the various contributions the company makes, Build-A-Bear Workshop has implemented several key programs to support causes throughout the world that help children and animals.

"Build-A-Bear Workshop and Simon Property Group share the same commitment to give back to the communities where we do business," commented Build-A-Bear Workshop Founder and Chief Executive Bear Maxine Clark. "Our contribution to the Simon Youth Foundation is a perfect way to support students in pursuit of higher education and we look forward to continuing to bestow scholarships to deserving youths through SyF."
