EnerSys Announces Price Increase

READING, Pa., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EnerSys (NYSE: ENS), the world's largest manufacturer, marketer and distributor of industrial batteries, today is announcing a price increase in reaction to increased commodity costs. This price increase will be effective on all battery products and accessories.

"This action is necessitated by the unprecedented rise in commodity costs to historically high levels," commented John D. Craig, EnerSys chairman, president and CEO. "For example, lead, which is our single largest commodity, has risen in cost by over 25% since our last price increase of 6% announced at the end of November 2005. In addition to lead, we continue to experience significant cost increases in other commodities including copper, plastics and utility costs as well as transportation costs. We continue to strive to control our costs, however, we cannot continue to absorb these unprecedented commodity prices and find it necessary to raise our prices to offset these increases. The price increases, which range from 5% to 10%, will be implemented worldwide across our product lines."
