EnerSys Expands Presence in Europe Through Acquisition of Mandik Metal Fabricating Facility

READING, Pa., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EnerSys (NYSE: ENS) today announced that it has completed a transaction to acquire a modern, metal fabricating facility located in the Czech Republic to support its European Industrial battery business.

Over the last decade under private ownership, the Mandik operation, located in Hostimice, southwest of Prague, has developed into a successful operation with advanced automation, and currently has over 35 experienced employees.

Ray Kubis, President, EnerSys Europe, explained, "The transaction is an extension of our multi-year strategy to extend EnerSys' cost leadership, and to further improve our service and quality, through the standardization of components and suppliers that will provide higher quality and lower cost solutions to our customers. Our leading OE customers are dramatically improving their supply chains as well as their costs, and this initiative will help us continue to meet their increasing expectations for costs, quality, and service consistency and flexibility."

The new EnerSys Czech Republic operation is targeted for expansion, and will work closely with EnerSys' large-scale factories in Poland, Germany, France, and the UK. EnerSys will also work to extend its cooperation with the best of its independent metal parts suppliers in Europe.

John Craig, EnerSys Chairman, CEO and President added, "The integration and standardization strategy for the new Czech operation is comparable to our successful investment in our metal fabrication facility in support of EnerSys' North American industrial battery operations. The timing is also excellent in assisting our European team to help control important raw material costs."
