Amazon Announces Second Indie Literary Prize Contest for Spanish-Language Authors

Contest will give award to best original Spanish-language works that have been self-published by independent authors exclusively through Kindle Direct Publishing

The winning work will have the opportunity to be published globally in print by La Esfera de los Libros and translated into English and published globally by AmazonCrossing in digital, print and audio formats

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 2015-- Amazon announced today its Second Annual Indie Literary Prize Contest for Spanish-language authors. Independent authors can submit their previously unpublished works through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), making their stories available to millions of readers worldwide, and qualifying them for the opportunity to be published in print, translated into English, and distributed worldwide. Amazon invited Ismael Cala, award-winning journalist, best-selling author and motivational speaker to be the ambassador of the contest for the United States and Latin America.

From July 1st to August 31st, authors can upload their work to Amazon’s KDP platform (https://kdp.amazon.com). Authors are given full control over the publishing process, from designing the cover to setting the list price. They can even choose to make a print copy of their book available for their readers by using CreateSpace (www.createspace.com). Books will be reviewed based on several criteria, such as creativity, originality and quality of writing and five finalists will be chosen. Out of this group, one will be selected as the winner to have the opportunity to be published in print by La Esfera de los Libros and translated and published in digital, print and audio formats in English by AmazonCrossing, the Amazon Publishing imprint for world literature in translation.

“KDP was designed to help authors find an audience, and to help audiences find their next favorite new book. We’re always looking for new ways to foster the relationship between KDP authors and readers – and that’s exactly why we are launching this global Spanish-language Indie Literary Prize Contest,” said Pedro Huerta, Director of Kindle Content in Spanish, Amazon. “We launched this contest last year in Spain and were very happy with the outcome, with hundreds of works submitted from authors around the world – in 2015, we want to again formally invite all Spanish-language authors to participate and we’re excited to bring more visibility to the amazing stories written in this beautiful language.”

As an ambassador for the contest and a best-selling author himself, Ismael Cala said: “I am delighted to be working with Amazon to help expand the reach of literature and Spanish-language authors throughout the United States and Latin America. As someone who is both an author and an interviewer of hundreds of authors on CNN’s CALA, I am deeply committed to the written word in all its formats. The Indie Literary Prize helps empower seasoned and aspiring authors alike and creates a much-needed bridge to connect their amazing stories with audiences from all over the world.”

To participate in the contest, independent authors need to upload their work to Amazon’s KDP platform (https://kdp.amazon.com), from July 1st to August 31st, and include concursoindie2015 in the “search keywords” metadata field. Submitted titles must be original, unpublished works, in Spanish and exclusive to Kindle through enrollment in KDP Select. Terms and conditions for the contest can be found at: www.amazon.com/concursoindie.

KDP is a free and seamless way for writers and publishers to make their eBooks available to Kindle readers around the world. All the novels taking part in the contest will be available in full in the Kindle Store and can be read on the Kindle and Fire family of devices, and free Kindle reading apps for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and on Android smartphones and tablets.
