SEATTLE, Sep 15, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

(NASDAQ: AMZN) - Kindle and Kindle 3G with Special Offers are already the bestselling Kindles, and customers report that they love the money-saving special offers. Today, Amazon.com, Inc. announced that Kindle and Kindle 3G with Special Offers customers will soon start receiving special offers from AmazonLocal on their Kindle screensavers when they aren't reading. AmazonLocal on Kindle with Special Offers is launching in New York City and expanding to all AmazonLocal cities later this year.

"Since we introduced special offers and lowered the price of Kindle to $114 and Kindle 3G to $139 earlier this year, customer response has been overwhelmingly positive - these quickly became our bestselling Kindles," said Jay Marine, Director, Amazon Kindle. "Customers tell us they love the new lower price for Kindle and the money-saving special offers that display when they aren't reading. We think customers are going to be thrilled with this new, convenient way to take advantage of AmazonLocal deals - you can view, purchase, and redeem the deals using only your Kindle - no computer, no printer, no hassle."

Upcoming AmazonLocal deals for New York City Kindle customers in Downtown, Midtown, Uptown (including the Upper East Side and Upper West Side) and Brooklyn include:

  • $7 for a one-hour bike rental in Central Park ($15 value)
  • $5 for $10 at Dangerfield's Comedy club
  • $59 for one month unlimited yoga classes at Bikram Yoga Grand Central ($180 value)
  • $5 for $10 worth of ice cream and ice cream cakes at Coldstone Creamery
  • $45 for lunch at City Winery ($98 value)

Customers can view their city's AmazonLocal deals and purchase the deal directly from their Kindle, without re-entering account or credit card information. Once a customer purchases a deal, they will receive a voucher directly on their Kindle's home screen. Customers can redeem their purchase by simply showing this voucher on their Kindle to the local merchant or by bringing in a printed copy. Customers can print a copy of the voucher by visiting www.local.amazon.com/purchases.

The functionality for receiving AmazonLocal deals on Kindle with Special Offers will be delivered as part of a software update for latest generation Kindles in the coming weeks.
