Star-studded Matches to Benefit Nine Local Charities
RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Genworth Financial, Inc.
(NYSE: GNW) announced that tennis legends Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf will
return to Richmond for the second annual Genworth Children's Advantage Classic
also featuring superstars James Blake and Lindsay Davenport. The December 8,
2006 exhibition will benefit at-risk youth in the Richmond community. One
hundred percent of all sponsorship and ticket proceeds go directly to the
charities.
Andre Agassi announced his retirement from tennis this year after a long
and remarkable career spanning 20 years and 60 titles including eight Grand
Slam titles. Agassi is one of only five men in history to win all four grand
slam tennis tournaments. Graf is a member of the Tennis Hall of Fame and
winner of 22 grand slam titles and 107 singles titles. James Blake has had a
heroic career that has created national headlines. He is currently ranked #8
in the world, and has supported and participated in a variety of programs for
at-risk youth similar to those that the Children's Advantage Classic will
benefit in Richmond. With more than 50 singles titles, Lindsay Davenport has
been one of the top women's champions for more than 13 years.
Nine Richmond area charities will share proceeds from the event, expected
to top $500,000. The charities, which all serve at-risk youth in the Richmond
community include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, Comfort Zone
Camp, FRIENDS Association for Children, Stop Child Abuse Now, William Byrd
Community House, and YMCA.
"Having Andre and Steffi back in Richmond to help at-risk children makes
our job raising funds for nine deserving charities that much easier," said
Michael D. Fraizer, Chairman and CEO of Genworth Financial. "Andre and Steffi
are both dedicated to helping children through the Andre Agassi Foundation,
having raised tens of millions of dollars to support underprivileged, abused
and at-risk children in their hometown of Las Vegas. We are proud to have
them be part of this great event."
"Steffi and I had a great experience playing in the Genworth Children's
Advantage Classic last year," said Agassi. "We are excited to be back to help
these nine Richmond-area charities improve the lives and opportunities for so
many children."
The Genworth Children's Advantage Classic, which sold out last year, will
be held at the Alltel Pavilion in the VCU Stuart C. Siegel Center. Ticket
prices range from $35-$125 and went on sale to the general public on September
12. Tickets are available through the VCU box office and all Ticketmaster
outlets.
