Genworth Financial Enlists Help From Hall of Fame LPGA Golfer Juli Inkster in Raising Awareness About Long Term Care Issues

RICHMOND, Va., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Genworth Financial (NYSE: GNW) today announced an alliance with LPGA Hall of Fame golfer Juli Inkster to help improve education and awareness of long term care planning. The winner of seven major titles, Inkster will make appearances at a number of LPGA tournaments this year on behalf of Genworth to help women better understand long term care issues.

Inkster, inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame in 2000, has 30 career LPGA tournament victories and is one of only four women to win the career grand slam. She also had a storied amateur career, becoming the first woman since 1934 to win three consecutive U.S. Amateur titles (between 1980-1982).

"We are thrilled to have Juli Inkster in our corner as a strong ally for our commitment to accelerate education about the personal responsibility of long term care planning," said Buck Stinson, president of Genworth Financial's long term care unit. "Juli is a terrific role model, believes in the cause, and understands the needs of Baby Boomer women -- a sizeable audience in need of more education about long term care issues and financial planning."

As part of the agreement, Inkster will wear the Genworth Financial logo on her attire at every 2005 LPGA tournament in which she plays.

Inkster, in joining forces with Genworth Financial, a leading provider of long term care insurance for 30 years, noted, "Americans are living longer lives than ever before, and planning for a long life is absolutely essential. I am pleased to help advance the ball on this kind of education for women. Your family's emotional and financial well-being is at risk if you don't have a plan for long term care and a way to finance it."

In addition to its new association with Inkster, Genworth Financial will host interactive, educational tents about long term care issues on-site at seven LPGA tournament sites in 2005. They include:

  • Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill, May 5-8 - Williamsburg, VA;
  • Sybase Classic, May 19-22 - New Rochelle, NY;
  • Wegman's LPGA, June 16-19 - Pittsford, NY;
  • Safeway Classic Presented by Pepsi, August 19-21 - Portland, OR;
  • Wendy's Championship for Children, August 25-28 - Dublin, OH;
  • Longs Drugs Challenge, October 6-9 - Auburn, CA; and
  • ADT Championship, November 17-20 - West Palm Beach, FL

Today's announcement follows a number of steps Genworth Financial has taken in recent months to expand its leadership position in long term care education, and bring greater awareness to consumers, producers and public policymakers.
