Genworth Appoints Three Independent Directors to Its Board
RICHMOND, Va.--June 16, 2004--Genworth Financial, Inc. today announced the appointment of three independent members to its Board of Directors: Frank J. Borelli, J. Robert "Bob" Kerrey and Thomas B. Wheeler.
Each has been appointed to serve a term expiring at the 2005 annual meeting of Genworth stockholders.
Mr. Borelli, 68, served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. from September 1984 to April 2000, and as director of that company from May 1988 to October 2000. He retired from Marsh & McLennan in January 2001.
Mr. Kerrey, 60, is president of New School University, a position he has held since 2001. From January 1989 to December 2000, he was a U.S. Senator for the State of Nebraska, and was a Democratic candidate for President in 1992. Mr. Kerrey served as Governor of Nebraska from January 1982 to December 1987.
Mr. Wheeler, 67, served as president and chief executive officer of MassMutual Life Insurance Company from October 1988 to March 1996 when he also was named chairman of the company. He retired as chief executive officer in January 1999 and as chairman in December 2000.
The appointment of three independent directors brings the total board membership to nine, including five members designated by GE, and Genworth's chairman and CEO.
