Their Workplace Volunteer Programs Will Receive Awards at the 2008 National Conference on Volunteering and ServiceRICHMOND, Va., June 10, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Genworth Financial, Inc.
(NYSE: GNW) was recognized by the Points of Light Institute, the world's
largest volunteer organization, with one of five national awards at its annual
National Conference on Volunteering and Service in Atlanta, Georgia last week.
The award was accepted by Michael Laming, senior vice president of human
resources for Genworth.
The awards, now in their 15th year, honor a business' overall employee
volunteer effort, including the actual service projects, program policies and
corporate vision that support those volunteer activities.
Genworth was recognized for the volunteer work of its employees worldwide.
Genworth's global community programs focus on helping children prepare for
their futures, keeping families in their homes, and enriching seniors' lives.
Last year, nearly 40 percent of Genworth employees volunteered -- logging more
than 17,000 volunteer hours and completing close to 200 projects.
"This award was particularly gratifying in that Genworth Financial, the
Genworth Foundation and our volunteer program have only been in existence a
few years since our spin off from the General Electric Company in 2004," said
Laming. "Without the commitment, passion and energy of our Genworth
volunteers across the globe, Genworth would not have been able to makes such
strides in making real differences in the lives of thousands of children,
families and seniors."
Other award winners included: The Walt Disney Company, Booz Allen
Hamilton, ChoicePoint, and Ben & Jerry's
