Partners with ITAC to Offer New Online Community Portal For Breach Readiness & Response

CHANTILLY, Va., June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Intersections Inc. (Nasdaq: INTX), a leading global provider of consumer and corporate identity risk management services, today launched a new online community and comprehensive resource, BreachCenter.com, to help businesses better educate themselves about breach readiness. To launch this new site, Intersections has partnered with the Financial Services Roundtable and ITAC, the Identity Theft Assistance Center. ITAC is a nonprofit created and supported by the financial services industry to fight identity theft through victim assistance, law enforcement partnerships and consumer education.

Data breaches and identity theft are the two most rapidly growing crimes in the U.S. In 2008 alone, Verizon Business investigated breaches involving more than 285 million compromised records, according to the 2009 Verizon Business Data Breach Investigations Report.

"It's not a question of whether your company will be breached; it's really a question of when. Despite the significant time and money devoted to breach prevention and industry standards developed by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council and the Federal Financial Institutions Examinations Council, breaches still happen. And when they do, people need a place to turn to for help," said John Scanlon, Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Intersections Inc.'s Business Services division. "We want BreachCenter.com to be that trusted resource. Through our exclusive partnership with ITAC, we are also able to provide valuable tools and resources that businesses can use to help minimize the impact of a breach and to help them and their customers recover if a breach has occurred."

In addition to providing resources like articles, white papers and case studies, BreachCenter.com has been designed to promote open discussion, opinions, news and reviews of data breach recovery services and is meant to be a "free community of interest" site, comprised almost entirely of participant collaboration and input. The site's Wiki pages, forums and blogs encourage the community of breach response professionals and victims to collaborate to define the issues, suggest the consensus view and point corporations toward the path to effective breach response.

Among the resources on the website is the "Seven Steps to Data Breach Readiness," a guide prepared by Intersections that provides companies with information on how to lay the groundwork for effective data breach recovery; and a database of consumer notification laws, organized by state and updated quarterly. In addition, information on recent data breaches will be posted on www.BreachCenter.com from The Open Security Foundation's (OSF) DataLoss Database, a free and open resource for the collection and dissemination of data loss incident-related information. The OSF is a non-profit public organization that provides knowledge and resources so that other organizations may properly detect, protect, and mitigate information security risks. BreachCenter.com also features news and opinions from the ITAC blog, a leading source of commentary from business and government officials on identity theft and identity management issues.
