Funding from this effort will be distributed through the Alliance for
Strong Families and Communities, a respected national community action
network, and will be earmarked to support nutrition and cooking
educational experiences that help children and families in underserved
communities lead healthier lives. Aramark is also providing community
centers with nutrition education materials as part of a curriculum
designed by the American
Heart Association, in collaboration with the company’s chefs and
dietitians.
"Seven in 10 Americans face health challenges due to a poor diet, and
children and families in our most economically challenged communities
are at the greatest risk,” said Dan Wainfan, who leads Health & Wellness
for Aramark. “Through this Feed Your Potential community health
initiative we are working to empower moms, dads and caregivers to help
them access, choose and prepare the healthy food their families need,
and ultimately, to improve the health of children and families in
underserved communities nationwide.”
“The American Heart Association is incredibly proud of the work we’re
doing alongside Aramark in communities across the country,” said Eduardo
Sanchez, M.D., M.P.H, FAAFP, Chief Medical Officer for Prevention and
Chief of Center for Health Metrics and Evaluation for American Heart
Association. “The commitment and expertise that Aramark brings to food
innovation and education in the communities they serve is invaluable as
we work together to make the healthy choice the easiest choice for all
Americans.”
Aramark’s Feed Your Potential 365 campaign, which launched last year, is
designed to help people discover the foods that can help them succeed
and keep them healthy. The campaign is part of the company’s 5-year
initiative with the American Heart Associationto
improve the health of Americans 20% by 2020.
Two years into their ground-breaking alliance, Aramark has achieved a 13
percent average reduction in calories, saturated fat and sodium, plus
significant increases in fruits, vegetables and whole grains on the
menus the company serves in workspaces, hospital cafes, and colleges and
universities, exceeding the annual target of 3-5 percent.
In addition, as part of the ongoing collaboration between the American
Heart Association and Aramark, community health education and engagement
programs developed to help people make better food and lifestyle choices
through culturally relevant and family-centric cooking, have expanded to
26 cities and nearly 50 community centers. Participants in the program
have shown positive changes in food and nutrition behaviors, increasing
their intake of fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
Those interested in joining the Feed Your Potential 365 campaign, for
their own health and for the health of their communities, will receive
healthy ideas from Aramark chefs, dietitians and AHA experts, knowing
that when they join a contribution will be made by Aramark to help feed
the potential of children and families in need in local communities.
