    Kindred Healthcare Issues 2009 Quality and Social Responsibility Report

    LOUISVILLE, Ky., Apr 27, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --Kindred Healthcare, Inc. (the "Company") (NYSE:KND) today announced that it has issued its 2009 Quality and Social Responsibility Report. The report outlines the Company's progress in improving quality indicators, clinical outcomes and customer satisfaction.

    The report highlights a few of the Company's achievements in improving the lives of its patients and residents, including:

    • The Company has continued to reduce employee turnover and increase retention.
    • Our Hospitals have made steady progress in improving customer satisfaction and clinical outcomes as measured against national benchmarks.
    • Our Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers have shown continued improvement in survey performance, quality indicators and customer service.
    • Peoplefirst Rehabilitation has produced significant improvement in the clinical outcomes and function of the patients it treats.
    • More than 54% of the patients and residents the Company cared for in 2009 went home or to a lower level of care after an average stay of 32 days and, importantly, 90% would recommend Kindred again for care.
