New Space to Feature Elements of Sustainable Design, Energy EfficiencyCHICAGO, Feb 17, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Exelon today announced that it
is in advanced negotiations with Bank One Plaza to lease space for its
consolidated Chicago headquarters.
Exelon is consolidating its downtown Chicago locations to support
productivity by eliminating travel time between the company's downtown sites
and to reduce long-term occupancy costs. Currently, Exelon leases office
space at Bank One Plaza, the AT&T Building, and One Financial Place.
Exelon will make its new office space "green," using criteria established
by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) program. Exelon has committed to achieving a LEED status of
silver or better and will incorporate elements of sustainable design and
energy efficiency in its headquarters.
"As one of the country's largest utilities, it's our responsibility to be
a leader in environmental stewardship. Energy efficiency works, and we want
our headquarters to be an example of that," said John W. Rowe, Exelon's
chairman, president and CEO. "I hope the space will be a positive and
productive atmosphere for our employees and that it will demonstrate to other
companies what can be done to make office buildings green."
"Bank One Plaza has provided a good home to many of our employees and will
provide an excellent foundation for what we're trying to do with sustainable
design in our office space," said Ruth Ann Gillis, senior vice president of
Exelon and executive vice president of ComEd. "And using the available space
here rather than building a new building is one way in which we are promoting
efficiency."
Exelon is likely to relocate to space that will be vacated by law firm
Sidley & Austin. Approximately 700 to 800 of Exelon's 18,000 employees are
expected to occupy 200,000 to 250,000 square feet, by early 2007. Bank One
Plaza is located at 10 S. Dearborn St.
Vendors working with Exelon include ISI, interior designer; ESD,
mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer; HJKessler, LEED consultant; and
Turner Construction, construction manager.
