First Turn-by-Turn iPhone Navigation Application Recognized for Real-Time Traffic, Search and Navigation Capabilities
ANNAPOLIS, MD, Jul 23, 2010 -- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, today announced that it has received notification that the Gokivo(R) Navigator iPhone application has won the 2009 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award from Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC). Gokivo Navigator is the first real-time turn-by-turn navigation application to have been made available in the Apple App Store.
Delivering both visual and voice-prompted directions for drivers and pedestrians, Gokivo Navigator provides one-touch access to geo-centric point-of-interest searches that feature ratings and reviews composed by millions of users. This leading navigation solution enables users to:
-- Obtain real-time traffic alerts that provide a heads-up on the next
move
-- Listen to the iPhone music library while navigating (the music volume
automatically lowers for turn notifications)
-- View rich 3D moving maps to quickly display the location of an address
or point of interest
-- Pinpoint current location and map every turn while staying connected,
and
-- Share geo-coded locations with friends via in-application email
Given Gokivo Navigator's small application size at 2.7MB size versus other 1GB+ navigation applications, there is plenty of room leftover for storing music, video and other applications.
"Gokivo Navigator turns any GPS-enabled mobile phone into a personal navigation device and TMC is pleased to recognize it as a 2009 Product of the Year Award," said Rich Tehrani, TMC's CEO. "Congratulations to the entire team at TCS. I look forward to more innovative solutions from them in the future."
The prestigious Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award recognizes vision, leadership and thoroughness. For this award, TMC considered products and services brought to market between March of 2008 and March of 2009, and selected the winners in June 2010.
"The demand for mobile location-based applications continues to grow dramatically and we pride ourselves on creating competitive solutions while aligning with our customer's needs," said Doug Antone, TCS senior vice president of the navigation and telematics group. "We are honored that TMC recognized Gokivo Navigator.
