| FMC Announces Plans to Recommission Soda Ash Capacity at Granger |
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FMC Wyoming Corporation announced today that it has initiated the recomissioning of the entire mothballed capacity at the company's Granger soda ash facility. FMC expects the additional capacity to be fully online by at least 2012. The initial volume increase will be above 100,000 tons/year starting in 2009, and the remaining capacity, approximately 700,000 tons/year will be commissioned in increments over the next three to four years depending on export growth. The total Granger capacity is 1.3 million tons per year. The facility is now operating at 500,000 tons per year after two increments of 250,000 tons per year were restarted in 2005 and 2006. "The growth of soda ash demand in the export market, and improved business profitability, allow us to take advantage of our entire mothballed capacity at the Granger facility," said Ed Flynn, FMC Corporation Alkali Division manager. "The low cost of soda ash production in Wyoming means we are very well positioned to supply the growing soda ash markets in Latin America, Asia and other parts of the world."
