| Sears Canada Issues Safety Rework on Affected Craftsman(R) Snowblowers |
TORONTO, Dec. 9, 2005 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX News Network) -- Sears Canada has been advised by Tecumseh Products of Canada Ltd., that it is voluntarily reworking the engines of a number snowblower models which are manufactured for Sears under the Craftsman(R) brand. According to the manufacturer, the fuel line may come loose at the fuel tank outlet/spud, creating a potential fire hazard. There have been no incidents of property damage or personal injury reported in Canada. The affected models were sold in Sears department stores, dealer stores and through the catalogue from September to December 2005. The potential models affected are 944 52524, 944 52529, 944 52531, 944 52589, 944 52590, C950524192, and C950524201. All customers who have purchased an affected model are advised to stop using their snowblowers immediately. Sears Canada has pulled the affected models off sale and is contacting potentially affected customers to arrange for their snowblower to be repaired by a technician. However, customers who have determined that they have an affected model and have not yet been contacted by Sears are asked to call 1-800-4-MY-HOME or 1-800-469-4663 (English) 1-800-LE-FOYER or 1-800-533-6937 (French) to arrange a repair. Sears Canada is bringing this matter to the attention of their customers in the interest of consumer safety and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
