Recognized for Excellence in Sustainability
Sears Canada Inc. (TSX: SCC) has won the Retail Sustainability Award at the Excellence in Retailing Awards celebration dinner held by the Retail Council of Canada earlier this month. The Company received the award for its "Live Green at Sears: Reducing Our Footprint…Helping Canadians Reduce Theirs" program that aims to reduce the Company's environmental footprint and help customers do the same.
The award coincided with week-long announcements about Sears sustainability initiatives which took place during Canadian Environment Week, including one of the largest replacements of inefficient lighting ever undertaken. There were also announcements about the recognition of the Sears Calgary National Logistics Centre as an ISO 14001 facility as well as the discontinuing by the Company of the sale of incandescent bulbs in their stores. Sears was also named by the government of Canada as the Natural Resources Canada 2011 ENERGY STAR(®) Retailer of the Year.
