| Sears Canada Advised of an Expanded Safety Notice relating to Maytag(R) Refrigerators |

| TORONTO, Aug. 28, 2009 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- Sears Canada has been advised by Maytag Corporation of an expanded safety notice regarding a number of Maytag refrigerator models. It has been discovered that an electrical failure in the relay, the component that turns on the refrigerator's compressor, can cause overheating and pose a serious fire hazard. In Canada, Maytag Corporation has received reports of incidents without injuries.
Some of the affected refrigerators were sold at Sears Canada retail stores, online at www.sears.ca, and through the Sears Canada catalogue from September 2000 to May 2004. The potential models affected are listed below and include certain side-by-side and top-freezer Maytag refrigerators only. The model and serial numbers are printed on a label located on the top middle or left upper side of the refrigerator liner.

Sears Canada will be contacting potentially affected customers to arrange for the free repair of their refrigerator. Sears customers who have not been in contact with Sears are asked to call 1-866-691-9948 to schedule an in-home repair. The model numbers listed above are only for those products affected by this expansion recall.
