CINCINNATI, Jul 13, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- United Way of America (UWA) has appointed Kathy Beechem,
executive vice president, Metropolitan Banking, U.S. Bank (NYSE:USB),
to its national Women's Leadership Council (WLC).
The newly formed Council, chaired by Ann Stallard, executive vice
president, Graphic Communications Corporation, is responsible for
transforming the network of United Way women's initiatives across the
country into a national movement that will enhance the effectiveness
of United Way. Beechem will help foster resource and relationship
development and provide strategic leadership to the ongoing work.

Her commitment as co-chair of the local Women's Leadership

give to United Way at the Tocqueville level, individuals who give
$10,000 or more annually. Cincinnati's Women's Leadership Initiative
ranks as one of the top 10 in the nation.
Beechem joins other women of national prominence, including Alecia
DeCoudreaux, secretary and deputy general counsel, Eli Lilly; Susan
Ivey, president and CEO, Reynolds American, Inc.; Dana Rader,
principal & founder, Dana Rader Golf School; Melanie Sabelhaus, former
deputy administrator, U.S. Small Business Administration; and Barbara
Washington, vice president, Merrill Lynch.
Her other commitments include serving as board president for Jobs
for Cincinnati Graduates Program and as board member of Cincinnati
Youth Collaborative and Chamber of Commerce Regional
Leadership Forum. She also serves on the executive committee of the
YWCA board and is active with the Fine Arts Fund and 4C, a United Way
agency partner. She has been a member of United Way's Campaign Cabinet
for the past two years in her role as co-chair of the Women's
Leadership Initiative.
Beechem was recognized in 2004 as one of the top 25 most powerful
women in banking by the publication, USBanker, and as a 2002 YWCA
Career Woman of Achievement.
Beechem earned a bachelor's degree in English from Thomas More
College and a master's degree from Indiana University. She resides in
Mount Adams with her husband, Pete.
