PHOENIX (Dec. 5, 2006) — Nine nonprofit organizations and two school tuition organizations in Arizona are being awarded more than $200,000 in grants by U.S. Bank and the U.S. Bancorp Foundation. Hope Levin, regional president for U.S. Bank in Arizona, announced the artistic and cultural enrichment, economic opportunity, education and health and welfare grants.

“These organizations continue to improve the quality of life in Arizona,” said Levin. “The U.S. Bank team believes that by supporting them, we are helping make our community stronger and better.”

U.S. Bank has awarded contributions totaling $200,000 to the Brophy Community Foundation and the Catholic Tuition Organization of the Diocese of Phoenix to help make a positive impact on education opportunities for Arizona students.

The U.S. Bancorp Foundation is providing grants to the following nonprofit organizations:

  • Arizona Opera Company – to support its school tour that provides a free live operatic performance in English to more than 25,000 students throughout the state;
  • Community Food Connections – to assist with hunger prevention programs including the Downtown Phoenix Public Market that provides healthy nutritious food to low- and moderate income neighborhoods that do not have access to a grocery store;
  • Diocesan Council for the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Diocese of Phoenix – for operating support that will assist with serving the poor and providing an opportunity for the more fortunate to serve others;
  • Habitat For Humanity of West Valley – to provide operating support so it can fulfill its mission of building simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with families in need;
  • Hacienda HealthCare – for new furnishings for its group homes that provide a wide variety of services for chronically ill and/or disabled infants, children and young adults;
  • Homeward Bound – to help with operating support so it can continue to provide transitional housing for the homeless and families with children impacted by domestic violence;
  • KAET-TV/Arizona State University Foundation – to help continue outstanding instructional and cultural information to viewers for more than 40 years;
  • Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block – to help with programs that connect art to life, inspiring discovery, creativity and cultural understanding through meaningful, engaging experiences; and
  • PREP Microbusiness & Housing Development – to assist this certified community development financial institution that provides small working capital loans to very small home based businesses.
