U.S. Bank, Milwaukee County Parks and Journal Sentinel Host Biggest July 3 Fireworks Display in Midwest

Hour-Long, Spectacular Milwaukee Lakefront Show begins at 9:25 p.m.

MILWAUKEE, (June 27, 2006) - Bring your blanket and prepare to be dazzled at this year's U.S. Bank Fireworks Show on Monday, July 3, which will blast off from the Southeast corner of Milwaukee Veteran's Park. The first of more than 7,000 shells will be ignited at approximately 9:25 p.m., and last a full hour with surprise launch sites throughout the show. In case of heavy rain, fog or severe weather, the U.S. Bank Fireworks will be rescheduled to Tuesday, July 4th at 9:25 p.m.

Bill Bertha, U.S. Bank Wisconsin market president, said, "We've been a part of this patriotic celebration for more than 30 years, and this year, with the help of the Milwaukee County Parks and Journal Sentinel, we plan to make it the best one yet. The skies over Milwaukee will be lit by Bartolotta's Fireworks Company for a full 60 minutes of 'oohs, and aahs,' with more drama, artistry and surprises that will have fireworks fans talking for years."

Best seats can be found in Veteran's Park and Juneau Park. There will be food vendors and live entertainment throughout the day while waiting for the fireworks, including A Gift of Wings Kite demonstration that will take place from noon until 5:00 p.m. and the energetic blues band, Bluehand, who will perform from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Due to pedestrian congestion, drop offs are discouraged along Lincoln Memorial Drive, which will be closed to traffic as the crowd gets increasingly large. To avoid unnecessary hassle, plan to come down as early as you can and enjoy the entire day at the lakefront, or drop off passengers at the top of the bluff along Prospect Avenue or Juneau Avenue.

Handicap parking is available at the north end of Veteran's Park, near the kite store. As parking is at a premium, going further out and catching a number of downtown buses to the lakefront, or taking the Summerfest shuttle along Wisconsin Avenue may be the best option. For details on the best bus route, please call the Milwaukee County Transit System at 414-344-6711.

General parking areas near the lakefront will open at 6 a.m. on Monday, July 3rd and there will be a $10 per car parking fee. The general parking areas are west of the center marina section and west of the old Coast Guard station. Large recreational vehicles and cars with trailers will be charged $10 per vehicle length and be directed to park on the grass south of the Sailing Center.

With a crowd of more than half a million, it is important to plan ahead, especially when with young children. Portal toilets and sinks will be located throughout Veteran's Park and handicap units can be found at the base of the Lincoln Memorial Bridge, at the north end of Veteran's Park.

Several first aid facilities and medical transportation will be placed throughout the Fireworks grounds and will be staffed by Bell Ambulance and the Milwaukee Fire Department. Milwaukee County Sherriff's Deputies will be stationed throughout the grounds for your assistance.

If you choose to grill out at the Park, please dispose of hot coals in the designated coal barrels. Improperly abandoned coals could start a grass fire or injure an unsuspecting barefoot spectator. Please also safely dispose of any bottles, cans and other refuse in the receptacles located throughout the parks. Also, it is illegal to possess or ignite sparklers, firecrackers or other personal fireworks in the city of Milwaukee.

For your safety, there will be restricted boating areas on Lake Michigan during the fireworks show.

If you are not able to see the fireworks in person, tune your television to FOX 6 for the LIVE broadcast of the U.S. Bank Fireworks show.
